Tim hooked up a clothesline outside this morning… even though rain was threatening all day and it was cold… cool… the wind was strong enough to dry things out very well. I’m glad that we are currently allowed use clothes-lines in Toronto; for a number of years they were banned in many neighbourhoods because they were considered “unsightly” (CTV News, 2008). I’ve used them for decades because of the energy savings. It’s funny; I remember the overriding of the ban like it was yesterday, although it was fully six years ago. That should be a notice to homeowner associations and politicians and others who make decisions that affect our lives: what can seem insignificant to one person can drastically affect another. And what we remember particularly strongly is not necessarily what decision-makers have expended a lot of thought or effort to decide.
