No More Kids and Counting

The program 19 Kids and Counting was cancelled last week (CBC, 2015). And I am glad. I never watched the program: as a Christian and an environmentalist I avoid programs that glorify overpopulation and abuse of the planet. I would rather watch a show that challenges me intellectually or teaches me something new (not that they are very common these days), than one that tries to make the extreme and the morally questionable seem normal. I know that others enjoyed enjoyed the show: it was TLC’s most popular offering, right up there with that other darling reality show: Here Comes Honey Boo Boo. Both examples of how some networks make their profits by reaching the lowest common denominator.
